Morningside Cafe
Morningside Cafe at Morningside Park, NYC
Introducing Morningside Café — a jewel-box kiosk reimagining a New York City classic. Designed by George Ranalli Architect, this tiny pavilion perched on the schist terrace of historic Morningside Park brings bold contemporary design into a quiet conversation with a 19th-century Olmsted & Vaux landmark.
Wrapped in crisp lines and park-green hues, the café feels as if it has always belonged among the stone stairways, leafy overlooks, and dramatic cliffside paths of this storied Manhattan park. A compact footprint, operable shutters, and a “spaceship-level” back-of-house create a highly efficient culinary machine—engineered for speed, precision, and neighborhood hospitality.
Restaurateurs Michael Summerville and Ada Uribe envisioned a kiosk that could serve the community with elegance and ease: shuttered windows that open into a welcoming counter, tailored panels that disappear into the landscape when closed, and an outdoor living-room terrace with moveable seating and sweeping park views.
Inside, every inch performs. Rational AG combi-ovens and digital systems power chef Michael “Crabman Mike” Summerville’s modern take on his family’s beloved Harlem seafood traditions—now a parkside ritual enjoyed by neighbors, runners, wanderers, and families alike.
Completed spring 2025, Morningside Café is a celebration of design discipline, community flavor, and everyday New York joy—where butter, brine, laughter, and high design meet at the counter.
