The Helmick renovation project combines two studio apartments in the Chelsea section of New York City. The removal of the demising wall created a large horizontal room. The client requested that we transform the existing spaces into loftlike living and sleeping zones. A red color-infused plaster wall separates the living room from two sleep lofts above the utilitarian spaces. The kitchen counter, a heavily veined red marble fior di pesco apuano, slips through the red wall into the main space forming the boundary between the dining area and the living area. |
