YALE UNIVERSITY COMMERCIAL BUILDING

Location: Broadway New Haven, Connecticut
Architect & Designer: George Ranalli
Project Architect: Mario Gentile

These studies were made for a Yale commissioned, 3,500 sq. ft. commercial building on Broadway with a facade that is 42foot wide and 42 foot high. Each of the studies is developed in strategies of more and less transparency to accommodate the shop frontage on the street as well as the rentable space on the second floor. Since the bulk of the buildings on the campus are heavy masonry, several of the studies developed this theme. Limestone, copper, and mahogany windows and doors are used to make the necessary associations.
