AMTRAK POWER PLANT RENOVATION AND REUSE
Location: New York, New York
Architect & Designer: George Ranalli
Project Team: Hollace Metzger & Hayden Marrero
In an attempt to maxinmize revenue, Amtrak commisioned a feasibility study of the last surving building of Pennsylvania Station, which is currently underused by the corporation.
The study, completed by GRA, features a transformation of the existing building into a combination AmTrak command center and dining facility. Due to its former use, the building possessed an extraordinary range of spaces, which were transformed into desireble public atriums and conference centers.
On the east side of the building, there is a small side yard where we proposed a sixteen story tower which features a roof-top, copper clad conference center.
